What if life would be like what it is for the main character in the movie The Dead Zone, like you could see the future of someone you touch. It could be like a curse if you would see all kinds of awful things. Christopher Walken really makes a good role play as the leading role actor in that movie. The main character with the ability to see the future is like the one character played by Lance Henriksen in television show named Millennium. Henriksen's character in Millennium could see to the past by touching different stuff like a table barehanded.

Games

I used to play a lot of online games like Counter-Strike: Source and Team Fortress 2. Nowdays I rarely play any games but sometimes I wish I had more powerful desktop computer to play on so I could play those games I used to play alot. With my current machine I have to set up the resolution to low if I want to play anything and it really makes the games unplayable. I think I could buy a good graphics card for the machine I use so the games could have a higher resolution but it seems like I'd have to buy a whole new computer instead of buying separate parts for the current computer.

School

I have two new courses I took in school, Fundamentals of Information Systems and Introduction to Software Production. In Introduction to Software Production the course is made of readable PDF document files and videos of the PDF files with audio explanation. Then there's an online exam on each topic of the course. I like this type of courses, it allows me to progress with my own speed and spend more time (re-read) on topics which are harder to understand.

In school during the last months I have learned (the basics) about extreme programming, Software processes, Software process models, Incremental development, Process activities, Process functions, Planning functions, System implementation, Software validation, Evolution of software, Process improvement, Process measurement, Agile software development, Test-driven development, Scrum, Test-driven development TDD, Definition of Done, Sprint and Scaling to large systems.

I think I have learned best foreign languages by watching television where the speech is in English and subtitles are in Finnish. I have mainly learned English in addition to my native language Finnish. I know many people in Finland know also Swedish but I haven't picked up that language at all. It's probably possible to improve one's language skills by reading books, articles and such things in the language which one want's to learn. I will continue to watch video and text content in English so I guess my vocabulary will get better over time. For my future work everything I have learned will probably play a part.

    Games are a great way to communicate with people using English. It really does give you some confidence in your English skills. Great post!

    I love games as well and I have been playing a lot of them recently. Good thing that you use games to communicate to other people. Great post!

Slow evening in the coder's corner

After sleeping for a long time, I treated myself with a visit to the local Subway to get a foot-long teriyaki chicken sandwich with cheese-oregano bread. I usually order it with only lettuce for topping with southwest and garlic sauces on the side with dry pepper. Happiest country in the world

In this post, I’ll share one of my favourite work projects, some highlights from recent studies, and a few thoughts about life in Finland. Work Project My favourite project at work (while many things were also fun to do) was the photographing of new items. It was fun to decide a good angle for each photo and have a proper lighting. Editing the photographs with Adobe Photoshop was also enjoyable. I removed the backgrounds and replaced them with white. The photographs also often needed cropping and resizing. I did this (like most of the things at work) alone. It was challenging to find the best photograph from all the ones taken, as I needed only one good shot per angle. During this work task I learned to be faster in editing the photographs as I gained experience. At home my favourite project was to feed and take care of my guinea pigs. Reading Weeks in School

For the Reading Weeks in School I read a couple of chapters of The Pragmatic Programmer by Andrew Hunt and David Thomas. Thomas/Hunt writes about what distinguishes Pragmatic Programmers. He writes that it's a special way of approaching problems and their solutions. Thomas/Hunt has the opinion that learning is a continuous and ongoing process. Thomas/Hunt believes that the most meaningful points of the pragmatic philosophy are taking responsibility of one’s own actions and taking charge of one's own career. By admitting ignorance or error, and by being honest and direct are the ways to be a professional. Thomas/Hunt informs that it's non-beneficial to make excuses, that we should make options instead of blaming someone or something else. For example making backups of done work is important.
